Week Plans

In the photo section, we are in charge of posting a photo on our website weekly that illustrates what is happening on our campus during the given time period. In order to manage this, my co-editor Ashwin and I created a Google spreadsheet that all of our staffers could access in order to keep track of events happening and who is covering them. As an editor, this has been helpful for me to keep track of how many times a staffer has been assigned a story, so I can balance the staffers' coverage opportunities.

For this story, I edited photos and captions for 4 of my staffers while also managing the pacing of the draft cycle and checking in with the staffers' progress. This story and editing process was important to me because I wanted to successfully post a live coverage story in 24-48 hours and also include a photo gallery with it. Additionally, this was my first time being on the editing end of live coverage. Therefore, this was a new experience and ended up being stressful due to the number of staffers who worked on this story together. Although the story got posted over 48 hours after the event, I was still proud that it went up on the website in a somewhat timely manner.

Going into my first year as a photo editor, I realized that the information that we had about photography, videography, design, and lighting equipment was very limited and scattered amongst many google documents. This inspired me to create the Equipment Guide slideshow, which lists every piece of equipment that is available to us on the publication and details what they do and when they should be used. This was also important to me because I had limited knowledge on the types of equipment prior to making this slideshow, so this bettered my understanding of this component of my job.
