The Drowsy Chaperone

This story was important to me because I had never photographed a main stage theater performance prior to this, so I was excited to capture every aspect of the performance, from the costumes to the dance choreography. It was especially important for me to keep in mind photography etiquette while photographing this story, including wearing black and not using a flash so the performers were not distracted.

Odd Jobs

For this story, I originally planned to take environmental portraits of each of the subjects in their workplace. However, this was a difficulty, as I had trouble with getting permission from the workplaces. In order to resolve this issue, I decided to take portraits in the photo studio. I think that this turned out successfully overall.

A Snapshot of the Concert

When taking photos of the Prism concert, I tried to focus more on capturing the students behind the concert rather than the concert as a whole. This work is important to me because in previous years when I had watched Prism, I had always wanted spotlight the hard work and effort that is put into this concert. This opportunity came to me for photography, so I tried my hardest to make the most out of the experience.

A Drip Goes a Long Way

I shot photos to cover the annual blood drive at my school. This was my first live coverage story, so I felt a lot of pressure to take and edit photos within the 24-48 hour time period. In order to manage this stress, I took photos during 2 periods throughout the day to get as many usable photos as possible. I tried to capture the prominent aspects of the blood drive such as volunteering and the process students went to get blood drawn.

Learning on Hold

The photos I took for the “Learning on Hold” story were part of my first web draft cycle that I covered. This was also the first time that I was taking photos for The Muse where I was shooting inanimate objects, rather than people. This was difficult for me because I had to think of creative ways to make the photos interesting. Despite the difficulty, I am proud of how these turned out.
